An American rapper, singer, and actress known for her hard lyrics and sweet voice, Eve Jeffers has proved that a female lyricist can be flourishing in the male dominated rap industry with the double-platinum Let There Be...Eve: Ruff Ryders First Lady (1999) and the platinum Scorpion (2001). The albums produced such hits as “What Ya Want, ” “Gotta Man, ” “Who’s That Girl, ” and the monster hit “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” (feat. Gwen Stefani) even won Eve a 2002 Grammy Award. Achieving a more mainstream audience, the rap’s queen attracted the attention of TV viewers for her starring role in her urban self-titled sitcom “Eve” (2003-2006), in which she nabbed a BET Comedy, an Image, a Kids’ Choice and two Teen Choice nominations. Eve Jihan Jeffers was born on November 10, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She lived with her mother and grandmother after the divorce of her teenage parents, when Eve was 12. Two years later, her mother remarried and Eve welcomed a younger brother, Farrod. Dissatisfied with the marriage, Eve felt the need to escape. She started working as a dancer in a Bronx strip club. Under the names Mystique, Ginger and Cinnamon, Eve was racking in the cash, and was keeping it a secret from her mother. Raised by her mother and grandmother in Philadelphia, Eve Jeffers was born with the endowment to entertain. She showed a talent for emceeing as a teen and, using the name “Gansta, ” she was rapping as a member of rap group EDGP (pronounced “Egypt”). After the Philly group broke up, the girl started working on a solo career under the name “Eve of Destruction.” Her mother’s new marriage made Eve upset and she found the escape by working as a stripper in a club in the New York Bronx. Eve’s huge break arrived when she utilized her street smarts to trick Aftermath Records’ producer Dr Dre into an audition.
